FICKLE FRIENDS BY KRISTEN WEIR

“Frenemies”
Further readings...
Research found that the ambivalent relationship can affect your health negatively. When the subjects are communicating with their ambivalent friends, the blood pressure readings were typically higher. In other words, their blood pressure will increase if they meet the person that they dislike but could not avoid from seeing them especially when they belong to the same groups and environment.

From this reading, I can see that the frenemies give a lot of bad effect, but why do people keep them?. As for my opinion, there must be some reason why do they still trying hard to keep this kind of relationship although it is hurt. Maybe they do not want to lose their precious friend or maybe they have another intention. The person who does not want to give up on this relationship must be a very great person because they are able to ignore or hide their own feeling.

My blood type is B, and people said that type B person tend to care only about their own business. They do not care about what happen in their surrounding. Do not misunderstand, because this does not mean that we don’t care about people. We just do not want to interfere with others business. Although most of us have this type of behaviour, we are still a normal person with normal feelings. We also can feel hurt although we tend to smile when conflict occurs because SMILE is the best cure. Frenemies should not exist because every friendship has to begin with a sincere heart. Accept your friend weakness and remember that no one’s perfect in this world.

“COPING WITH FRENEMIES”
If you still want to keep this ambivalent relationship, it’s not a problem anymore because there is a method to get through this easily. Firstly, you must think positive. Second, aware with their weakness that will affect your progress so you can get rid of it later. The best solution is to “start with controlling your own behaviour and being the kind of friend you’d want others to be”-Holt Lunstad.

Sometimes you feel you’ll be fine by yourself,
Cause a dream is a wish when you made all alone,
It’s easy to feel like you don’t need help,

ARE YOU A ROMANTIC OR A LIBERTINE...? BY M. SCOTT PECK, M. D

Dr. M. Scott Peck is a world renowned psychiatrist who focuses his work on reassessing certain human conduct in social interaction. This article is from his bestselling book, “The Road Less Travelled” as it appeared in women’s magazine, Self. This excerpt gives a very deep meaning to the readers since it contains a lot of important information to us. This situation often run through our mind, ‘Are you a romantic or a libertine’? We tend to ask this question to our self but did we get the right answer?.
‘LOVE’....
WHAT IS LOVE?
This words can gives different meaning for each people and often gives the positive views towards us. Ask yourself, what is the function of this word to  you? Happiness? Laughter? Care?.. is that all?. That is what I think of the words ‘LOVE’, but the truth is not as beautiful as it is. There are so many things that contains in that words. What I’m trying to say is, love begins with both side, the positive and the negative. We are too naive if we just think of the joyfulness of love.

LOVE IS A PARADOX
Love contains the mix feelings of hatred and resentment or unusual feeling that human beings have at the same time. We can detect ‘love’ by its symptoms such as jealousy, worry (a feeling of affection and resentment) and desire to be with the whom you loved.

STRATEGY
Everything in this world needs a very perfect plan so it will work out. This is what girls really loves, and the strategies to make them fall for you, I create my own strategy (just for fun):
©       Flowers...(girls really love flowers)..except she’s allergic to them. Make sure you check it.
©       Surprise...do something official that they can bragged about it.
©       Care...make sure that you always updated about her health condition, or she will think that you are not gentlemen and you never care. At the same time, don not overdo it (it bothers much).
©       The most important thing is..sincere, you must make sure that she knows that you are sincere. Make her feel that she is precious to you.

All this while, I’ve been talking about love. Actually I’m not an expert with this thing since I don’t have a boyfriend. This article shows me that how people can be in love and what are their true perceptions towards ‘LOVE’. Make sure that you will never regret and appreciate and cherish it forever in your heart.

FICKLE FRIENDS BY KIRSTEN WEIR

When you heard the words ‘friends’, what thoughts that runs through your mind?. What memories that you remember with them? Happy or sad? Happiness or disaster?. Well, it depends on someone’s experience. Before, I’m not actually a cheerful person. It is hard for me to open my heart to my friends. It is also hard for me to open my mouth or we can say that I’m afraid to socialize with people. That is my biggest problem.  Sounds unbelievable, but that is the truth. After I joined this course, it changes me into a different person (in positive side) and now I got a lot of friends. Do you think by having a lot of friend can make your life perfect? think about the quality, not quantity.

I’m attracted with the first paragraph of this article that says ‘HAVE YOU EVER had a friend who makes plans to hang out but cancels when a better offer comes along? Or a buddy who helped you through a bad breakup, then flirted with your ex? To scientists, these problematic pals are known as ambivalent friends, or we can just call them ‘frenemies’. I think this is the combination of the words friend and enemies. I actually never had this kind of experience, but I’ve heard that from my friends. It happens to a lot of people and it is a common thing that happens to every human beings. Someone that tells those things never happen in his or her life might just don’t realize it yet. I think I’m in the same situation as them.

FRENEMIES=BACKSTABBER
We can’t trust everyone in this world. That is what everyone told me to do. As for my opinion, you can give your trust to that particular person, but you can not give your 100 percent trust to them. This is not because of the behaviour of people that can’t be trusted, but it can prevent you from hurting yourself. If you give your full trust to people, what if in the future they betray your trust?. It will surely hurt you deeply and you will refuse to trust the others again. It is very dangerous for yourself if you lose your trust to people because it will change your perception towards others. You will tend to think negatively towards others and avoid from cooperating or socialize with people.

Test Your Brain Documentary

Today, I choose to review on a documentary premiered by the National Geographic channel on the title ‘Test Your Brain’. This documentary is very interesting since it shows us many things that we did not realize all this while. The thing that we called magic is actually a trick that runs through our mind. Sometimes our mind can be fooled by the things that we see with our eyes.
This documentary gives me a lot of information about how the brain works. We tend to believe in what we see, but not all the things that we see is the truth. I am very interesting on how the man is using his trick to steal things and the victims did not realize it at all. In this clip, I know that human barely can do the multi tasking. The man is talking with the victims while stealing so that is why the victim did not realize about this at all. I know that our brain usually work really fast but sometimes it can not catch the thing that hard to see. Our brain also transferred the information received to our nerve cells. That is why when I am watching the action movies, sometimes I would felt that I’m in the situation. Although the character in the movie gets hurt, sometimes I can feel the same.
Test Your Brain really challenging our brain since it shows me many tricks that make my brain works in different way, but I often lose this challenge that involved the brain. It shows that my brain is hard to focus on many things at one time. So, I’m not the multi tasking type of person. I guess I have to stop on doing things last minutes. The best part is, this documentary teaches me how to plan my daily schedule. This documentary is the best and interesting documentary that I’ve watches all this while.

Our brains are hardwired to make sense of what we see, hear, smell, touch and taste, and fill in missing pieces with whatever our expectations suggest should be there.  This helps us understand sentences even when the letters are out of place.  But while brains are amazing at processing the world around us, how much should you actually trust your own brain?  Enough to multitask by chatting on your cell phone while taking a drive?  Think spotting a dancing, life-size penguin sounds easy? Or how about riding a bike with your eyes closed, or picking the right person out of a line-up after witnessing a crime?~(http://natgeotv.com/asia/test-your-brain/about)

try to challenge yourself with this first!!

Animal Farm By John Stephenson

This is my seventh assignment review. I’m writing a review on a movie on the title ‘Animal Farm directed by John Stephenson. This story tells us about how the animals succeed to revenge and stand together to win their rights. At the beginning of the story, it shows that the farm had been destroyed by the disastrous nature. The story begin when Jessie, a female dog tells the true story that happens to them and what is the reason for all of their disastrous life.
As we can see, the story is about people and animal that strives to gain power and continue to use people under them without concerning their needs. This movie shows how people behave and treat the animals without pity and force them to work unwillingly. The owner, Mr. Pilkington is a very selfish person and often forgets to feed the animals. Until one fine day, the animals gather together and planned to rule the farm and they succeed. Napoleon, a pig is their leader. At first, he was a very brilliant person, but after a while, we can see that the pig behaves like a human. Napoleon become cruel and ignores about other animals.
From my review, we can see that the animal begins to behave like men. They become cruel and selfish. They forget what they supposed to do. Every living thing in this world is a very selfish being. We tend to forget about others to fulfil our own need. We also tend to use different kind of method to get rid of others that tries to stop us including killing them.
From my opinion, if we try to cooperate and appreciate each other, this will not happen to us. We can create a harmonious living by respecting others. If the human did not treat the animals with fierce, the animals will not get their revenge. They will gladly help us to live. We are nothing without each other.

The Social Network By David Fincher

I’m reviewing on the movie ‘The Social Network directed by David Fincher’.   The film was released in the United States by Columbia Pictures on October 1, 2010. This movie is a very interesting movie since it tells us about what happen to this developing world. The technology creates information towards people but certain people use this kind of technology for their own benefits. This short film review about how people socialize with each other without having a conversation. Just a ‘click’ to a button and you can be friends with millions of people.
As for my opinion, this movie shows how people use others technology wrongly. The main character, Mark had misused the technology for his own benefit. This movie also shows about friendship, workplace and their social environment. We can see the lifestyle of a student although it is too social, but that is how the American teenagers live. This movie is focused on a group of brilliant students that involves in creating illegal websites. What I love the most about this movie is the negotiation process that occurs in this movie between each group of people. We can tell that Mark is an expert in negotiation since he use and attacked others opinion with his own arguments. He stated his fact with full of confidents and make people believes about his statements.
By watching this, we can conclude that this movie can give a lot of good example to us. It will also help us to be more confident in our life and it teaches us on how to use a good arguments. Good arguments can lead to a good conclusion. As in the end, Mark is success in his life and he becomes one of the Facebook staff. Although he get all this thing by a dirty trick, but that’s the movie is all about, ‘you don’t get to 500 millions friends without making a few enemies’.

THE PIANIST DIRECTED BY ROMAN POLANSKI

This is my second movie review and also my sixth assignment review for the Critical Literacy’s assignment. I am going to review a movie ‘The Pianist’, a biographical war film directed by Roman Polanski. This movie is a very interesting movie for me. The main actor, Adrien Brody who cast as Władysław Szpilman is a famous Polish Jewish pianist working for Warsaw Radio (taken from Wikipedia).
At the beginning of the plot, Szpilman’s country was attacked by the German army. Britain and France had declared war on Nazi Germany. This is when the whole villagers live turns out worst. After their country had been ruled by the Germans’ army. The Jews has to live in an awful life everyday and they witness each of the sadistic activity.
Szpilman’s family is desperate because the Nazi’s had limited their right to own the money, the food and ask them to wear the band. The family gives a very good example for us. Even though they are desperate, but their family bonds are tight. They share the foods even it is not enough to fill their stomach. It shows that they are not a selfish person and care toward each other.
Unfortunately, this doesn’t help them to stay together when one day Szpilman is separated from his family. The army forced him to stay and become a slave labourer with others. Szpilman shows his sad expression and it also make me cry too, but since he is a man, he surely got a strong heart. Although he has to be a slave, sharing the foods, being tortured by the Nazi, he still put up a spirit to live. He never gives up until one day, he manage to escape from the cruel Nazi. I love the spirit shows in this movie, it help me to be strong no matter what circumstances go through our live. In the end, Szpilman’s spirit help himself to live and Warsaw is free from the Nazis. He become a very famous pianist around the world and live happily until his last breath.
